Starting point Roche’s “Winning for the Future” initiative is aimed at securing the firm’s success in the long term. As well as sustained growth, the primary goal is increased value for all shareholders. The keystone of the initiative is is the concept of “Value Based Management”. It provides statistics and indicators which can help maintain and expand Roche’s position at the top of the health industry.
A learning program called eVBM was developed to teach the basic knowledge associated with Value Based Management. After working through the learning program, participants take part in follow-up workshops which look closely at implementing VBM in each participant’s own work area.
Target audience Around 4000 international management executives in Finance and Controlling at Roche Group.
Implementation The learning program is made up of six modules, each of about 20 minutes learning duration. It covers Total Shareholder Return, Operating Profit after Capital Charge, and the application of Value Based Management within Roche.
The learning modules consist of presentations with voiceover and sound, practice sections and tests. To increase the participant’s motivation, many case studies are built in. They approach the subject matter in a light-hearted way, and encourage the learner to think about the problem.
Language English

The Roche corporate design style is used throughout the presentation.
The learning program can be called up via a link in the Roche intranet. The number of visits are recorded, so that the use and usefulness of the learning tool can be analysed.
Programming The eVBM tool is an intranet application created with Macromedia Flash and Standard-HTML.
Customer feedback: Matthias Schneck, International Project ManagerRoche Diagnostics
Project progress and co-operation - excellent The project was faced with a very tight schedule. The pre-production work was still in the conept stage and had to be continued parallel to the development of the learning tool, with the result that a high level of communication and flexibility was demanded of both sides. As it was, BusinessInteractive proved to be an exemplary partner. We were especially pleased with their support and initiative in the didactic and graphic design field, and by the importance they placed on keeping to our timetable. They worked very hard - sometimes well outside "normal working hours".
Overall Acceptance: very good The learning tool was very well accepted. In particular there was praise for the design of the tool and the way the subject was handled, as well as for the fundamental idea of using e-learning in this field. The support of the management was of course a critical factor here. The provision of a support specialist for small (browser related) problems also proved important. The best signs of the project's acceptance are that, in many departments, people who did not have to use the tool chose to do so voluntarily, and that the eVBM was used and recommended in the central administration and the Pharma division. |
